Thank you for your interest in Dutch Fork Driving School!

Dutch Fork Driving School is located in Irmo, SC and serves the Irmo-Ballentine area and surrounding community throughout South Carolina.

My name is Richard Zimmer and I specialize in teaching beginner drivers. I am excellent with teenagers and also very good with nervous drivers.

I am a 47 year old retired Navy veteran and reside in Irmo, near Dutch Fork High School, with my wonderful wife Cynthia and two teenage daughters. I enjoyed teaching my own daughters how to drive so much that I decided to do this for a living.

Classroom:

As required by S.C. law, all 15-16-year olds getting a driver's license must first complete a driver's education program consisting of a minimum of eight hours classroom instruction and six hours of behind-the-wheel experience with a certified instructor. Also welcome are17-18-19-year-olds and older beginners. Always check with your insurance company for applicable insurance discounts.

Classroom training is conducted in a single session. The classes start at 8 AM and run 'til 4:30 PM and include a 30-minute lunch break.

The classroom is comfortably furnished to keep the students' attention focused for the eight-hour class and I limit class size to fourteen students to make sure everyone gets the attention they need.

Classes fill up fast so please contact me for a reservation.

Driving:

The six hours of behind-the-wheel training will be divided into three two-hour lessons, scheduled at your convenience.

The school car is a 2005 Honda Civic.

Adults: The rate is $200 for the adult course, which will consist of four hours of behind-the-wheel instruction (focusing on road test preparation) and eight hours of classroom instruction. Note: This will not meet insurance discount requirements, but can with an additional two hours of behind-the-wheel instruction for an additional 80 dollars. That will meet the same requirement and cost as for 15-16 year-olds to obtain their driver's license.
